SUBJECT:
Vehicle Has a Dead Battery After Being Towed Behind a Recreational Vehicle with All Four Wheels on the Ground (Refer to Revised Four Wheel Towing Procedure in this Bulletin)
MODELS AFFECTED:
All 2000 Saturn L-Series Vehicles
CONDITION:
Some customers may comment about the vehicle having a dead battery after being towed with all four wheels on the ground behind a recreational vehicle.
CAUSE:
This condition is caused by the body control module (BCM) being active when the ignition is in the ACC position.
CORRECTION:
Remove IGN 0/3/CR 30A and IGN 1/2 30A maxifuses prior to towing. Refer to procedure in this bulletin to properly prepare the vehicle for towing.
PROCEDURE:
Prior to towing vehicle:
1. Position and attach the vehicle to be towed.
2. Turn the ignition key to ACC position.
3. Turn fog lamps and all accessories Off.
4. Shift transaxle to N (Neutral).
5. Open hood.
2000 Model Year Only:
6. Open underhood fuse block (UHFB) cover and remove the maxifuses shown at location (I). (Refer to underside of the (UHFB) cover for specific maxifuse locations.)

7. Replace underhood fuse block (UHFB) cover.
8. Close hood.
NOTICE: When towing vehicle with all four wheels on the ground, make sure the towing speed does not exceed 65 mph (105 km/h) or your vehicle could be severely damaged.
NOTICE: Don't tow the vehicle with the front drive wheels on the ground if one of the front tires is the compact spare tire. Towing with two different tire sizes on the front of the vehicle can cause severe damage to the transaxle.
NOTICE: Too much or too little fluid can damage the transaxle. Be sure that the transaxle fluid is at the proper level before towing with all four wheels on the ground.
Upon reaching destination:
1. Shift the transaxle to P (Park).
2. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position and remove the key from the ignition.
3. Open hood.
4. Open underhood fuse block (UHFB) cover.
5. Replace the maxifuses that were removed previously.
6. Replace (UHFB) cover.
7. Close hood.
