35. Cylinder Head Assemble
- TOOLS REQUIRED
- SA9124E-1 Valve Spring Compressor
- J-43652 Valve Spring Compressor Adapter
- SA9102E Valve Stem Seal Installer
NOTICE: In order to avoid damage, install the spark plugs after cylinder head has been installed on engine.
1. Install cylinder head plug. Coat plugs with thread sealer Loctite (R) threadlocker 242 or equivalent.
2. Inspect valve springs. (Refer to "Engine Specifications" for the tolerances.)
3. Look for the following conditions when inspecting valve springs:
- Expanded height
- Unparallel spring ends
- Spring tension.
4. Assemble valves.
5. Use the following steps to measure valve runout:
a. Apply a dab of Prussian blue on entire valve face. Seat valve but do not rotate it. The Prussian blue traces transferred to the valve seat are an indication of concentricity of the valve seat.
b. Clean all traces of Prussian blue.
c. Apply a dab of Prussian blue on the valve seat and repeat the check. The traces of Prussian blue transferred to the valve face indicates valve face concentricity.
6. Recondition valve seat or replace valves, if required.
7. Install new valve seals. Fully seat seals on valve guides.
8. Install springs.
9. Install retainer.
10. Compress valve spring. Use SA9124E.
11. Install valve keys.
12. Slowly release SA9124E from valve/spring assembly.
13. Inspect for proper valve key seating.
14. Install cylinder head air bleed tube.
