67. Stub Shaft Sleeve Assembly Installation

1. Inspect stub shaft for damage to splines, snap ring grooves, and journals.

IMPORTANT: If sleeve appears damaged, replace sleeve using same procedure for removal and installation as with output shaft sleeve.

2. Inspect sleeve for excessive wear, scratches or nicks that could cause a leak or damage the seal portion.
3. Clean and dry stub shaft and sleeve assembly.

NOTICE: J41228 must be used in order to install the sleeve onto stub shaft. There will be a fluid leak if J41228 is not used.

4. Place a sleeve over end of stub shaft.
5. Install collet into stub shaft snap ring groove with collet attached to threaded collet shaft.
6. Place sleeve installing tube over collet. Be sure the small outside diameter of tube fits securely into sleeve.
7. Install bearing and nut onto threaded collet shaft.
8. In order to move the installing tube and press sleeve onto stub shaft, hold the end of threaded collet shaft while tightening nut down.
9. Remove J41228.

10. Install new snap rings on stub shaft. Snap rings are not reusable after shaft is removed.
11. Install stub shaft into transaxle. Use a mallet in order to install shaft through final drive differential gear.
