Power Flow

Neutral: In neutral, with engine running and clutch engaged, the input shaft will turn. With 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th and 5th synchronizers in a neutral position, power will not flow to output shaft.
1st Gear: In 1st gear range, 3rd/4th and 5th synchronizers are in neutral and the 1st/2nd synchronizer sleeve is moved to the right to engage 1st gear blocking ring and 1st gear. Because 1st/2nd synchronizer hub is splined to output shaft, torque is transmitted from input shaft through 1st driven gear, synchronizer sleeve and hub, output shaft, and into the differential (final drive) assembly.
2nd Gear: In 2nd gear range, 3rd/4th and 5th synchronizers are in neutral and 1st/2nd synchronizer sleeve is moved to the left to engage 2nd gear blocking ring and 2nd gear. With 1st/2nd synchronizer hub splined to output shaft, torque is transmitted from input shaft through 2nd driven gear, synchronizer sleeve and hub, output shaft, and into the differential (final drive) assembly.
3rd Gear: In the 3rd gear range, 1st/2nd and 5th synchronizer sleeves are in a neutral position, and 3rd/4th synchronizer sleeve is moved to the right to engage 3rd gear blocking ring and 3rd gear. With 3rd/4th synchronizer hub splined to input shaft, torque is transmitted from input shaft through the synchronizer hub and sleeve, 3rd drive gear, 3rd driven gear, output shaft, and into the differential (final drive) assembly.
4th Gear: In 4th gear range, 1st/2nd and 5th synchronizers are in neutral and 3rd/4th synchronizer sleeve is moved to the left to engage 4th gear blocking ring and 4th gear. With 3rd/4th synchronizer hub splined to input shaft, torque is transmitted from input shaft through synchronizer hub and sleeve, 4th drive gear, 4th driven gear, output shaft, and into the differential (final drive) assembly.
5th Gear: In 5th gear range, 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th synchronizers are in a neutral position and the 5th speed synchronizer sleeve is moved to the right to engage 5th gear blocking ring and 5th gear. With 5th gear synchronizer hub splined to input shaft, torque is transmitted from input shaft through synchronizer hub and sleeve, 5th drive gear, 5th driven gear, output shaft, and into the differential (final drive) assembly.
Reverse: In reverse gear range, 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, and 5th gear synchronizers are in neutral position, and reverse gear synchronizer sleeve is moved to the right to engage reverse gear blocking ring and lock reverse gear and reverse idler gear together. Reverse gear is constantly meshed to 1st drive gear on input shaft, and reverse idler gear is constantly meshed with external teeth on 1st/2nd synchronizer sleeve. Torque is transmitted from 1st drive gear on input shaft through reverse gear, reverse gear synchronizer sleeve, reverse idler gear, external teeth on 1st/2nd synchronizer sleeve, synchronizer hub, output shaft, and into the differential (final drive) assembly.
