Wheel Bearing/Hub Disassembly

DISASSEMBLY

- TOOLS REQUIRED
- SA91595 Front Wheel Bearing Remover/Installer

NOTICE: If hub or bearing is removed from the knuckle, a new bearing must be used during assembly.





1. Assemble wheel bearing/hub removal tool (SA9159S or equivalent) with part numbers:
- 1 - Hub driver
- 2 - Hub driver screw
- 3 - Bridge retainer
- 4 - Bridge





2. Secure entire setup in a vice (by bridge) as shown in illustration.





3. While holding hub driver with a wrench, tighten hub driver screw to extract hub.





4. If inner race of bearing is pulled out with hub in previous step, remove race from hub using part numbers:
- 8 - Inner race puller
- 9 - Two bridge retainer plates
- 10 - Two bolts
- 11 - Two flat washers
5. Inspect hub at bearing location for pitting, scoring, wear, or corrosion. Replace if necessary.





6. Remove steering knuckle from vice.
7. Remove bridge retainer and bridge.
8. Remove bearing retainer snap ring.





9. Place knuckle/bearing assembly in a shop press as shown in illustration, using part numbers:
- 5 - Knuckle support tube
- 6 - Small driver
10. Press out bearing. Inspect bore of knuckle for pitting, scoring wear, or corrosion. If damage cannot be easily cleaned up with light sanding, replace the knuckle.
