Brake Light Switch: Service and Repair
Before replacing stop lamp switch, check stop lamp switch adjustment. With brake pedal depressed, the cruise/brake switch contacts should be open (no continuity). With the brake pedal released the cruise/brake switch contacts should be closed (continuity). The contacts for the stop lamp switch contacts are exactly opposite.
The stop lamp switch can be adjusted by loosening the bolt and sliding it towards, or away from the brake pedal. The plunger should be fully depressed with the brake pedal released.
