Windshield Washer Solvent - Usage/Mixing

NO.: 99-I-15

DATE: October, 1999

CORPORATION NO.: 99-08-43-018

SUBJECT:
Service Information on Proper Use and Proper Mixing Ratio for Windshield Washer Solvent During Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI)

MODELS AFFECTED:
All 2000 Saturn S-Series and L-Series vehicles

PURPOSE:
During production, windshield washer solvent is added to the windshield washer solvent bottle. The bottle is not filled completely full at the factory due to shipping constraints. Therefore, the windshield washer solvent bottle must be filled by Retailers during vehicle PDI.

The only Saturn recommended washer solvent to be used during vehicle PDI is Optikleen (P/N 01051515). Optikleen is available from Saturn Service Parts Operations (SSPO) in concentrate form and must be mixed with water for use.

IMPORTANT:
To achieve windshield washer solvent freeze protection to -32°C (-25 °F), the Optikleen to water ratio must be 1 part Optikleen to 1 part water.

Currently, the Optikleen label is incomplete and shows that 1 part concentrate mixed with 2 parts water will achieve freeze protection to - 18°C (0 °F). This level of freeze protection is inadequate for winter use in most geographic areas.

This illustration will be added to bottles of Optikleen windshield washer solvent in the future. The illustration shows the proper mixing ration of Optikleen to water to achieve specific levels of freeze protection.
