Accelerator Control Cable

REMOVAL




1. Remove the air intake tube and fresh air hose.
2. Remove PCV hose.




3. Release accelerator control cable from throttle lever.
4. Release cable retainer locking tangs from accelerator control cable bracket. Use an adjustable wrench to aid in depressing the throttle cable retaining tabs.

5. Release accelerator control cable from accelerator pedal assembly.

IMPORTANT: The accelerator cable assembly can be removed and installed easier with the accelerator pedal assembly removed. Refer to "Accelerator Pedal Removal".

Accelerator Cable To Bulkhead Connection.:

6. Release cable retainer locking tangs from dash panel. Use a 16 mm box end wrench to aid in depressing the throttle cable retaining tabs.
7. Remove cable from vehicle.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Make sure vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. to help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on hoist, provide additional support for the opposite end from which components are being removed. Make sure hoist does not contact fuel or brake lines.




1. Raise vehicle squarely on a hoist.
2. Route cable through front of dash from the outside in, under the intake manifold, and up between the second and third intake ports.
3. Lower vehicle.

NOTE: Whenever a throttle cable assembly is installed, make sure locking tangs are engaged to front of dash and the seal is properly installed. The cable should be installed so that tangs are in a horizontal position to provide optimum sealing. Pull on the cable to insure the tangs are engaged.




4. Install cable retainer into front of dash.

5. Install cable retainer into the support bracket until locking tangs engage.
6. Connect accelerator cable to throttle lever.

7. Inspect air cleaner gasket and replace if torn, deteriorated, or damaged. Install air cleaner assembly or air inlet tube and resonator. Attach air inlet and fresh air tubes.
8. Connect accelerator control cable to accelerator pedal assembly.
9. Check accelerator control assembly for binding.
