ABS Rear Wheel Speed Sensor
REMOVALThe rear wheel speed sensor is contained within the hub/bearing assembly. The sensor is not serviceable separately. To replace a damaged rear wheel speed sensor, the entire rear hub/bearing assembly must be replaced.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT TO THE OPPOSITE END OF THE VEHICLE THAT COMPONENTS WILL BE REMOVED FROM.
1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove road wheel corresponding to the hub being replaced.
3. Disconnect electrical connector from ABS wheel speed sensor.
4. Remove drum from hub.
5. Remove four hub to knuckle bolts.
6. Remove hub/bearing assembly.
INSTALLATION
1. Join hub, brake shield, and knuckle with four fasteners. Torque to specification.
Torque: 85 Nm (63 ft. lbs.)
2. Install brake drum.
3. Connect electrical connector to ABS wheel speed sensor.
IMPORTANT: Be sure that electrical connector is fully seated and latch is engaged.
NOTICE: Before installing wheels, remove rust or corrosion from wheel mounting surfaces and brake drums. Failure to do so can cause wheel nuts to loosen in service.
4. Position wheel onto hub.
5. Install wheel nuts and tighten in a crisscross pattern. Repeat tightening pattern to make sure torque is correct.
Torque: 140 Nm (103 ft. lbs.)
6. Lower vehicle from hoist.
