Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

System Description

The power window system is designed to open and close all of the windows from a power window master switch assembly located in the console.

On the Sedan and Wagon, the rear door windows may be controlled from switches located in each rear door. The left rear door switch will operate only the left rear window, and the right rear door switch will operate only the right rear window. The rear window door switches can also be disabled from the power window master switch assembly.

On the Sedan and Wagon, the power window master switch assembly contains five switches: One switch each for control of the four windows and one rear window lockout switch to enable or disable, rear window operation from the rear window switches.

On the Coupe, the power window master switch assembly contains two switches, one switch for control of each of the two front windows.

The system consists of a relay, one power window master switch assembly, two single power window switch assemblies (Sedan and Wagon), four window motors (two window motors on the Coupe) and related wiring harnesses.

The power window system is operational only when the ignition switch is in the RUN position. For the rear window door switches to be operational, the rear window lockout switch must also be in the enable (ON) position.

Each window motor has an internal self resetting circuit breaker that will open the circuit if the switch is held in the up or down position too long after the window has reached the up or down position.
