Air Conditioning - Not Cooling/Inoperative

SUBJECT:
A/C Inoperative (Replace A/C Compressor Clutch)

MODELS AFFECTED:
2000 Saturn S-Series vehicles built before and including YZ178263 and equipped with air conditioning (RPO C60)

CONDITION:
Some customers may comment that the air conditioning is inoperative or is not cooling adequately.

CAUSE:
The A/C compressor clutch coil may have an open circuit due to a loose connection at the compressor clutch coil thermal link fuse. Over time, this loose connection may cause the fuse to overheat and open.

CORRECTION:

1. Check for an open across compressor clutch coil circuit.

^ If the circuit is open, proceed to step 2.

^ If the circuit is not open, refer to the diagnostic information in the S-Series HVAC Service Manual for assistance in diagnosing the concern.

2. Replace compressor clutch. Do not replace the compressor assembly. (For compressor clutch removal and installation procedures, refer to "Compressor Clutch - Ogura(R) Clutch" in the S-Series HVAC Service Manual.)

To receive credit for this repair during the warranty coverage period, submit a claim through the Saturn Dealer System using the appropriate Electronic Labor Time Guide and Labor Operation Code D4240 (Clutch Plate and Hub Assembly, Compressor - Replace).
