Front Door Handle: Service and Repair

REMOVAL




1. Remove front door outer panel.
2. Bend tabs on outer ends to remove door handle pivot assembly from bracket. Unlatch rod retainer.
3. Remove rod from pivot.
4. Remove outside handle rod at retaining clip.
5. To remove bracket from door structure, use center punch to knock out steel center of rivet.
6. Drill out rivet with 1/4" diameter drill bit.
7. Slide pivot bracket down and out.

IMPORTANT: The rod retaining clips used in the door lock levers and door lock cylinder pawls are not re-usable. Clips must be replaced every time a rod is extracted.

INSTALLATION




1. Install door latch actuator rod to pivot assembly and secure retaining clip.




2. Place pivot assembly into door structure and align door latch actuator rod into latch mechanism while installing the fingers on the upper part of the pivot assembly bracket with the door structure.
3. Firmly install two rivets into bracket and door structure.
4. Use rivet gun to compress and pop rivets.
5. Install front door outer panel.
