Fuel Filler Hose: Service and Repair
FUEL FILL PIPEREMOVAL
CAUTION:
^ DO NOT ALLOW SMOKING OR THE USE OF OPEN FLAMES IN THE AREA WHERE WORK ON THE FUEL SYSTEM IS TAKING PLACE.
^ ANY TIME THE FUEL SYSTEM IS BEING WORKED ON, DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE, EXCEPT FOR THOSE TESTS WHERE BATTERY VOLTAGE IS REQUIRED.
1. Ensure that fuel level in tank is less than 1/4 full. If necessary, drain fuel tank to at least this level. (Refer to "Fuel Tank Draining" procedure.)
CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.
2. Position vehicle on hoist.
CAUTION: ANY TIME THE FUEL SYSTEM IS BEING WORKED ON, DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE, EXCEPT FOR THOSE TESTS WHERE BATTERY VOLTAGE IS REQUIRED.
3. Disconnect negative battery cable
4. Remove fuel filler cap and rubber closeout grommet around fuel filler pipe neck (inside fuel filler door).
5. Remove attachment screw at upper end of filler pipe.
6. Raise vehicle to a comfortable working position.
7. Remove wheel house inner liner.
8. Disconnect wiring harness connector at EVAP canister vent solenoid.
9. Remove fuel filler pipe lower bracket attachment screw.
10. Disconnect EVAP canister hose.
11. Loosen fuel filler pipe hose clamp closest to fuel tank.
12. Disengage filler pipe hose from fuel tank and remove fuel filler pipe.
INSTALLATION
1. Raise vehicle to comfortable working height.
IMPORTANT: To ease installation, lightly wipe outside of fuel tank inlet connector with plain water.
2. Position filler pipe into wheel opening with top of pipe within body panel opening.
3. Install fuel filler pipe into fuel tank opening.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that the EVAP vent solenoid pipe is installed in position on the filler pipe bracket.
4. Loosely install filler pipe lower bracket attachment screw but do not tighten.
5. Lower vehicle and install filler pipe upper bracket attachment screw.
Torque:
Fuel Fill Pipe-to-Body (Upper): 2.5 N.m (22 in-lbs)
6. Install rubber closeout grommet to body and filler pipe.
7. Install fuel cap.
8. Raise vehicle to comfortable working height.
NOTE: Ensure that the fuel pipe connecting hose is installed until it touches the fuel tank body. The hose clamp should be located within 6 mm (1/4 in.) of the end of the connecting hose.
9. Tighten hose clamp on filler pipe to fuel tank connecting hose.
Torque:
Fuel Fill Neck-to-Fuel Tank Clamp: 5 N.m (44 in-lbs)
10. Connect EVAP canister vent pipe at quick connect to canister vent hose.
11. Connect recirculation line (5/16") quick connection.
12. Tighten lower attachment screw on filler pipe to underbody.
Torque:
Fuel Fill Pipe-to-Body (Lower): 13 N.m (9.5 ft-lbs)
13. Connect the harness connector to EVAP vent solenoid.
14. Install wheelhouse inner liner to wheel opening.
