Removal and Replacement

ENGINE REMOVAL





1. Remove battery.
2. Remove intake air cleaner.
3. Disconnect MAP connector.
4. Remove battery ground cable at wheel housing.
5. Remove positive main feed cable at fuse block.
6. Disconnect TCM main connector under cowl cover and secure to engine.
7. Disconnect TCM inline connector located near the brake master cylinder.
8. Disconnect A/C pressure connector.
9. Remove fuse block.
9.1. Remove fuse block cover.
9.2. Disconnect BLACK engine harness connector under fuse block panel.
9.3. Remove lower weather-pack connector inside fuse block.
9.4. Secure engine harness to top of engine.
9.5. Remove fuse block mounting bolts.
9.6. Remove fuse block and secure away from engine.
10. Remove battery tray.
11. Disconnect EVAP purge connector.
12. Disconnect right front speed sensor connector and secure to top of engine.
13. Disconnect front O2 sensor from down pipe.
14. Disconnect the following electrical connections:
14.1. Transaxle ground.
14.2. Transaxle main connector.
14.3. Transaxle shift control.
14.4. Rear connector on ECM.
15. Remove brake booster vacuum hose.
16. Relieve fuel pressure.
17. Disconnect fuel lines and secure away from engine.
18. Disconnect EVAP purge hose at EVAP purge solenoid.
19. Raise vehicle.
20. Remove starter.
21. Remove torque converter bolts.
22. Drop exhaust system from catalytic converter forward.
23. Disconnect transaxle nose bracket.
24. Remove A/C compressor mounting bolts and secure to frame rail.
25. Drain engine coolant.
26. Disconnect heater hoses at lower cowl.
27. Disconnect lower engine to transaxle bell housing bolts. Do not remove upper bolts at this time.
28. Lower vehicle.
29. Remove main hose to coolant reservoir from engine inlet adapter.
30. Remove lower radiator hose from engine.
31. Remove upper radiator hose from engine.
32. Drain power steering fluid by removing small hose from under reservoir.
33. Disconnect metal power steering line.
34. Disconnect power steering reservoir from radiator support and secure to top of engine.
35. Attach engine lift hoist to lift hooks on engine and support engine weight.
36. Remove right front engine mount from wheel housing.
37. Remove engine mount bracket from engine.
38. Remove upper bell housing bolts.
39. Lift engine out of vehicle.

ENGINE INSTALLATION





1. Lower engine into vehicle and guide to mate with dowel pins on transaxle.
2. When engine and transaxle are aligned on shuffle pins, install upper bell housing bolts. Do not torque at this time.
3. Install engine mount bracket onto engine and install bolts.
Torque:
Engine Mount Bracket Bolt: 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.)
4. Install right front engine mount and install bolts.
Torque:
Engine Mount-to-Frame Bolt: 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.)
Engine Mount-to-Bracket Bolt: 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.)
5. Install transaxle nose bracket bolts.
Torque:
Nose Cone Bracket-to-Oil Pan Bolts (Transaxle Nose Bracket Bolts): 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)
6. Remove engine lift hoist.
7. Attach metal power steering line.
8. Attach small hose to bottom of power steering reservoir.
9. Attach power steering reservoir to radiator support.
10. Install upper radiator hose.
11. Install lower radiator hose
12. Attach main coolant reservoir hose to engine.
13. Raise vehicle.
14. Install lower engine to transaxle bell housing bolts and torque.
Torque:
Lower Engine-to-Transaxle Bell Housing Bolts: 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.)
15. Install torque converter bolts.
Torque:
Torque Converter Bolts: 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.)
16. Install starter.
17. Connect heater hoses at lower cowl.
18. Install A/C compressor to engine mounting bracket.
Torque:
A/C Compressor Bracket Bolt: 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)
19. Install exhaust down pipes to catalytic converter.
20. Lower vehicle.
21. Connect EVAP purge solenoid hose.
22. Connect fuel lines.
23. Connect brake booster vacuum hose.
24. Connect the following electrical connections:
24.1. Rear connector on ECM
24.2. Transaxle shift control
24.3. Transaxle main connector
24.4. Transaxle ground
24.5. Right front speed sensor
25. Connect front O2 sensor connector.
26. Connect right front speed sensor.
27. Connect EVAP purge solenoid connector.
28. Torque upper bell housing bolts.
Torque:
Upper Bell Housing Bolts: 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.)
29. Install battery tray.
30. Install fuse block.
30.1. Install fuse block mounting bolts.
30.2. Route engine harness into block.
30.3. Connect lower weather pack connector.
30.4. Connect main engine harness under fuse block panel.
30.5. Assemble fuse block.
31. Connect A/C pressure connector.
32. Connect TCM inline connector near brake master cylinder.
33. Connect TCM main connector under cowl cover and secure to engine.
34. Connect positive main feed cable at fuse block.
35. Connect battery ground cable at wheel housing.
36. Install battery.
37. Install intake air cleaner.
38. Connect MAF connector.
39. Add coolant.
40. Add power steering fluid.
41. Start engine and check for leaks.
