Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Service and Repair

EVAP CANISTER

TOOLS REQUIRED
^ SA9805E Fuel Line Separator

REMOVAL

The EVAP emissions canister is located in a molded cavity on the top of fuel tank.




1. Remove fuel tank from vehicle.
2. Disconnect 5/8 in. fuel tank vapor inlet hose fitting from canister.
3. Disconnect vent tube.
4. Disconnect 5/16 in. fuel vapor/canister purge fitting from canister using special tool Fuel Line Separator SA9805E.
5. Remove retaining strap.
6. Remove canister from fuel tank.

INSTALLATION




(1) Canister Purge
(2) Vapor
(3) Vent

1. Place EVAP emissions canister in the pocket on top of fuel tank. Make sure that canister vent hose is positioned towards middle of fuel tank.

IMPORTANT: If a replacement canister is being installed, make sure that vent hose is installed on canister prior to installation on fuel tank. Orient molded vent hose on canister so that when it is installed it is pointed toward fuel tank inlet.

2. Install the canister and its retaining strap.

NOTE: Install the retainer for the purge fitting quick connect into the female portion of the connector. Care must be taken to ensure that the locking tab is centered in the window of the female connector.

3. Install 5/16 in. purge line fitting to purge port on canister.
4. Install 5/8 in. vapor line fitting to tank port on canister.
5. Install vent tube.
6. Install fuel tank.
7. Perform "Service Bay Diagnostic Test" for evaporative emission system using Scan tool. This test will verify integrity of vapor handling areas of fuel system.
