25. Reverse Input and 2ND Roller Clutch Assemble
REVERSE INPUT AND 2ND ROLLER CLUTCH ASSEMBLE1. If reverse clutch inner seal assembly was damaged and removed, install a new reverse clutch inner seal assembly. Use Reverse Clutch Inner Seal Installer J41233.
2. Assemble reverse clutch piston and seal assembly. In order to aid in assembly, lubricate seal with transaxle fluid.
3. Assemble reverse clutch return spring and retainer assembly with smaller outside diameter down.
4. Compress reverse clutch return spring. Use Clutch Spring Compressor Adapter J41232 and Clutch Spring Compressor J23327.
IMPORTANT: The snap ring that retains the reverse clutch piston is narrower than the snap ring that retains the clutch plates. Care must be taken so that they are not interchanged.
5. Assemble return spring snap ring.
6. Remove J41232 and J23327.
7. Assemble wave plate.
8. Assemble three steel plates and three new fiber plates in alternating order beginning with a steel plate.
9. Measure distance between top of snap ring groove and top friction plate (record measurement).
10. Refer to "Reverse Clutch Backing Plate Specifications" in order to select the appropriate backing plate required to assemble the reverse input and 2nd roller clutch assembly. The backing plate identification is stamped on the beveled side of backing plate.
11. Assemble reverse clutch backing plate with beveled edge up.
12. Assemble snap ring in reverse clutch housing in order to retain reverse clutch plates.
