Service Information Regarding Unique Wheel Wrench Extension Socket and Revised Wheel Nut Torque Specification for 2001 Special Edition 5C2 Vehicles
MODELS AFFECTED:
2001 Special Edition 5C2 vehicles equipped with chrome plated wheels (RPO P07)
PURPOSE:
This bulletin provides information regarding a unique wheel wrench extension socket and a revised wheel nut torque specification for 2001 Special Edition 5C2 vehicles equipped with chrome plated wheels (RPO P07).
^ The wheel nut hole diameter does not provide adequate clearance for a standard socket or the vehicle's wheel wrench to fit onto the wheel nut. Therefore, a thin-walled wheel wrench extension socket has been included in a kit (P/N 21013453) provided with each 2001 Special Edition SC2 vehicle. This extension socket fits onto a standard 3/8 inch drive tool or torque wrench, and it also has a hex head that fits into the vehicle's wheel wrench. The extension socket should be used whenever wheel and tire assemblies must be removed, installed, or torqued.
^ The wheel nuts also have clamping characteristics that are different from standard wheel nuts. Therefore, a revised wheel nut torque specification must be followed whenever wheel and tire assemblies are removed and installed. The correct torque specification is on the spare tire cover label and in the Owner's Handbook. The wheel nuts must be torqued to 110 Nm (81 ft-lbs) whenever wheel and tire assemblies are installed.
NOTICE:
Tightening wheel nuts to a torque value greater than 110 Nm (81 ft-lbs) on 2001 Special Edition 5C2 vehicles may cause damage to the wheel nut, stud, and/or wheel.
