Fluid leaks from Automatic Transaxle End Cover
(Replace 1st Design End Cover with 2nd Design End Cover)
MODELS AFFECTED:
2001 Saturn S-Series vehicles built after and including VIN 1Z236431
CONDITION:
Some customers may comment of transaxle fluid leaks from automatic transaxle end cover area.
CAUSE:
This condition may be caused by a porosity leak in the automatic transaxle end cover.
CORRECTION:
Replace 1st design end cover with 2nd design end cover to correct porosity leak concern. The 2nd design end cover is an enhanced design to improve the transaxle's ability to resist porosity leak concern. A 2nd design end cover and bolt kit (P/N 210058350) has been released to back service all 1991-2001 S-Series vehicles. When servicing a 1st design end cover, a 2nd design end cover kit must be used. When servicing a 2nd design end cover, parts are available individually.
To replace end cover, Refer to "End Cover" procedure in the Removal and Installation section of the 2000/2001 S-Series Automatic Transaxle Service Manual.
To identify a 1st and 2nd design end cover, refer to illustrations shown.

To receive credit for this repair during the warranty period, submit a claim through the Saturn Dealer System for K6490 (Cover and/or Gasket - Transaxle End - R&R or Replace). If another procedure is performed, refer to the appropriate Electronic Labor Time Guide for the correct labor operation code and time.
