END COVER (ON-VEHICLE)REMOVAL
CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.
1. Position vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove left front wheel.
3. Raise vehicle.
4. Drain transaxle fluid.
5. Remove left inner splash shield.
6. Remove end cover bolts and remove end cover. Discard gasket.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean gasket surfaces. Mating surfaces must be clean and dry.
2. Install end cover gasket.
3. Turn the reverse cone so that the slots align the cone to the end cover.
IMPORTANT: Clean and lubricate fasteners with Saturn Transaxle Fluid wipe off excess fluid and install.
4. Install end cover and install bolts and torque using a crisscross pattern.
Torque:
End Cover-to-Case Bolts (In Crisscross Pattern): 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.)
5. Install inner splash shield.
NOTICE: Before installing wheels, remove rust or corrosion from wheel mounting surfaces and brake rotors/drums. Failure to do so can cause wheel lug nuts to loosen in service.
6. Position wheel onto hub.
7. Install wheel nuts and torque in a crisscross pattern. Repeat torquing procedure to be sure torque is correct.
Torque:
Wheel Lug Nuts (In Crisscross Pattern): 140 Nm (103 ft. lbs.)
8. Install drain plug.
Torque:
Transaxle Drain Plug: 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)
9. Fill transaxle to proper level using Saturn Transaxle Fluid.Saturn Transaxle Fluid: 2.5 L (2.6 quarts)
