P0116

Schematic:

The PCM compares the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor reading to the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor reading to determine the accuracy of the ECT sensor. DTC P0116 sets when the IAT and ECT are not within a calibrated range after a period of time after the ignition is turned off.

DTC PARAMETERS
DTC P0116 will set if when:
^ The difference between the ECT and IAT is greater than 15°C (27°F) after the engine has been running for 5 minutes and vehicle speed is greater than 24 km/h (15 mph)

OR

^ If the difference between the ECT and IAT is greater than 33°C (60°F)
^ No IAT DTCs have been set

P0113 is a type B DTC.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
To locate an intermittent problem, use Scan tool to monitor IAT and ECT with ignition On, engine Off. Wiggling wires while watching for a change in IAT or ECT temperature may locate where an open or short in the wiring could lie.

An engine block heater may cause this DTC to set.
