Instrument Panel (IP) - Installation Procedure
TOOLS REQUIREDKM-210 Steering Wheel Puller
1. Position I/P to vehicle.
2. Loosely install upper I/P fasteners at windshield defroster location.
3. Loosely install I/P fasteners at I/P cluster location.
4. Loosely install I/P fasteners at glove compartment location.
5. Loosely install I/P fasteners at left side to beam location.
6. Loosely install I/P fasteners at end brackets.
7. Torque all fasteners.
Torque:
I/P Assembly-to-Vehicle Attaching Fasteners: 20 N.m (26 ft-lbs)
8. Secure I/P harness to I/P at locations where clips were removed.
9. Attach electrical harness to I/P at center outlet location.
10. Install cluster harness to I/P, ensuring that harness is secured into I/P retainer.
11. Install I/P cluster into I/P housing ensuring that the cluster harness is connected. Install and tighten fasteners.
Torque:
I/P Assembly-to-Vehicle Attaching Fasteners: 20 N.m (26 ft-lbs)
12. Install I/P cluster trim plate with fasteners.
Torque:
I/P Cluster Trim Plate-to-I/P housing Fasteners: 2.5 N.m (22 in-lbs)
13. Position I/P filler (knee bolster) to instrument panel and push at attaching clip locations to secure filler to I/P.
14. Connect left side A/C outlet switch harness and install A/C outlet with fastener.
Torque:
A/C Outlet-to-I/P Fastener: 2.5 N.m (22 in-lbs)
15. Snap hood release handle bracket into I/P.
16. Install data link connector (DLC) by snapping into I/P bracket.
17. Install left side HVAC lower outlet with retainer.
18. Install HVAC control head to I/P and install fasteners.
19. Torque fasteners.
Torque:
HVAC Control head-to-I/P Fasteners: 2.5 N.m (22 in-lbs)
20. Connect radio ground strap spade terminal, electrical connector(s), and antenna to rear of radio.
21. Install radio by sliding it into the guides on the instrument panel.
22. Install and tighten fasteners.
Torque:
Radio-to-I/P Fasteners: 2.5 N.m (22 in-lbs)
23. Connect center trim plate switch harnesses to switches and snap center trim plate into I/P
24. Snap windshield defroster grille into I/P.
25. Install glove compartment bin partially into opening.
26. Secure BCM to glove compartment bin slots.
27. Route glove compartment lamp wiring harness through lamp opening and connect wiring harness to glove compartment lamp.
28. Snap lamp into glove compartment bin.
29. Install glove compartment bin to I/P with fasteners.
Torque:
Glove Compartment Bin-to-I/P Fasteners: 2.5 N.m (22 in-lbs)
30. Install right side heater outlet with retainer to glove compartment bin.
31. Install right side lower dash closeout panel (hush panel) with retainers.
32. Install glove compartment door with fasteners.
Torque:
Glove Compartment Door Fasteners: 2 N.m (18 in-lbs)
33. Operate glove compartment lamp and glove compartment door to ensure proper function.
34. Install I/P-to-floor pan bracket nuts.
Torque:
I/P-to-Floor Pan Bracket Nuts: 20 N.m (15 ft-lbs)
35. Position console into vehicle. Route shifter/PRNDL boot through console opening.
36. Install console front fasteners.
Torque:
Console Fasteners: 2.5 N.m (22 in-lbs)
37. Move front seats to forward most position and install console rear fasteners.
Torque:
Console Fasteners: 2.5 N.m (22 in-lbs)
On automatic Transmissions
38. Snap PRNDL cover into console opening.
On 5-speed transmissions
39. Snap shifter boot into console opening.
40. Connect console wiring harness to main body harness located under front console tray.
41. Snap console front tray into console.
On power windows
42. Connect power window harness to power window switch and snap switch into place.
43. Snap park brake boot into place.
44. Install console extensions
45. Install steering column trim cover and attachment fasteners.
Torque:
Steering Column Trim Cover Attaching Fasteners: 4 N.m (35 in-lbs)
46. Install ignition switch bezel.
47. Remove yellow tab or tape from SIR coil assembly.
48. Route wiring through steering wheel and install steering wheel onto steering shaft noting orientation notch that locates steering wheel in correct position.
IMPORTANT: A new steering wheel attachment nut must be used.
49. Install new steering wheel attachment nut.
Torque:
Steering Wheel Attaching Nut: 40 N.m (30 ft-lbs)
50. Connect cruise control (if equipped) switch connectors and attach harness to wheel.
51. Connect inflator module wiring harness and install connector position assurance (CPA) device.
52. Install inflator module into steering wheel. Be sure to seat all four attachment points.
53. Enable the SIR system. Refer to "Enabling the SIR System" procedure.
