Engine Oil: Service and Repair
ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER REPLACEMENTNOTICE: Do not use a universal type oil filter wrench to remove oil filter, damage to oil cap and engine may result.
NOTICE: The cylinder block sealing surface can be damaged if oil filter is removed using a chisel or screwdriver.
IMPORTANT: Either a 68 mm (14 Flute Oil Filter Wrench) or a 32 mm socket must be used to loosen oil filter cap assembly.
1. Remove engine oil filler cap.
IMPORTANT: Make sure oil filter gasket is removed from cylinder block. Do not tighten oil filter.
2. Using a 14-flat 68 mm (2.68 inch) oil filter wrench or 32 mm (1.26 inch) socket, fully unscrew oil filter housing cap to allow drain back of oil contained in housing.
3. Remove engine oil drain plug and drain oil into approved container.
4. Remove oil filter assembly from oil filter housing.
5. Grasp filter housing cap with filter element attached and gently tap filter element on recycling container to release filter element into container.
6. Install new oil filter element into filter housing cap.
7. Inspect filter housing cap O-ring and replace if worn, cut, or damaged.
8. Using a 14-flat 68 mm (2.68 inch) oil filter wrench or 32 mm (1.26 inch) socket, install oil filter assembly into oil filter housing.
Torque:
Oil Filter Cap: 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
9. Clean and install engine oil drain plug. Replace drain plug sealing ring if worn or damaged.
Torque:
Oil Drain Plug: 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
10. Fill engine with 4.73 L (5 quarts) of new SW-30 engine oil.
Engine Oil: 4.73 L (5 quart)
11. Install engine oil filler cap.
12. Start engine and check for leaks.
13. Check engine oil level after engine is Off for 5 minutes. Add oil as necessary.
14. Reset "CHANGE OIL SOON" telltale lamp.
