Service Information Regarding Transaxle Shift Adaptives Reset Procedure

Models:
2002 Saturn L-Series vehicles equipped with 4 cylinder (L61) engines and automatic transaxles 4T40-E (RPO MN4)

Purpose

The purpose of this bulletin is to provide a transaxle shift adaptive reset procedure. Due to a system software change, transaxle shift adaptives cannot be reset with the scan tool or Service Stall System (SSS). Refer to the following procedure in this bulletin anytime it is necessary to reset the transaxle shift adaptives.

Reset Procedure





1. Disconnect negative battery cable.

2. Disconnect PCM J1 and J2 harness connectors.

3. Leave harness connectors disconnected for 35 minutes.

4. Connect PCM J1 and J2 harness connectors.

5. Connect negative battery cable.

Tighten

Tighten the Battery Terminal Bolt 17 N.m (13 lb ft)

6. Road test vehicle to verify shifts adaptives have been reset.
