Whistle Noise Under Certain Engine Operating Conditions (Replace Intake Manifold Casket with Revised Intake Manifold Gasket Part Number)
MODELS AFFECTED:
2000 - 2002 Saturn L-Series vehicles equipped with 4-cylinder (L61) engines
CONDITION:
Some customers may comment about a high-pitched whistle noise from the engine compartment during deceleration or idle conditions. The noise may be described as being similar to a tea kettle whistle.
CAUSE:
High intake manifold vacuum conditions may cause a slight amount of air to leak between the intake manifold and gasket causing a whistle type noise.
CORRECTION:
Replace intake manifold gasket with the part number provided in this bulletin.
Refer to appropriate service procedure in the applicable model year L-Series L61 Engine Service Manual. The revised gasket part number provided in this bulletin DOES NOT require replacement of the intake manifold.
