Rear Door: Adjustments




Rear Side Door Adjustment




1. Note the original position of the door lock striker.
2. Remove the bolts.
3. Remove the striker and striker shim if present.
4. For up, down, forward or rearward adjustment, perform the following steps:

1. Remove the center pillar molding. Refer to Rear Side Door Upper Hinge and Lower Hinge Replacement (Rear Side Door Hinge Replacement) removal procedure.
2. Loosen the hinge to hinge pillar nuts. Adjust the door as necessary.

5. For inboard or outboard adjustment, perform the following steps:

1. Remove the rear door outer panel. Refer to Outer Door Panel Replacement Rear - Bolt On (Outer Door Panel Replacement Rear - Bolt On) removal procedure.
2. Remove the rear door insulator. Refer to Rear Side Door Insulator (Door Insulator) removal procedure.
3. Loosen the door to hinge nuts. Adjust the door as necessary.




6. If sufficient door adjustment cannot be obtained, perform the following steps:

1. Remove the rear door. Refer to Rear Door Replacement (Rear Door Replacement) removal procedure.
2. Enlarge the outer 2 stud openings closest to door panel with a drill bit to 13 mm (1/2 in).
3. Apply a pinch weld primer to bare metal areas where the holes were drilled.
4. Install the rear door. Refer to Rear Door Replacement (Rear Door Replacement) installation procedure.

7. Move the door within the door opening to achieve the best alignment and operation.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

8. Tighten all hinge of the fasteners that were loosened.

Tighten the hinge fasteners to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).

9. Install the striker to the approximate proper position. Refer to Rear Door Striker installation procedure.
10. Adjust the door striker. Refer to Rear Side Door Lock Striker Replacement (Rear Side Door Lock Striker Replacement).

Tighten the door striker fasteners to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).

11. Check the seals for proper engagement.
