Sunroof / Moonroof: Description and Operation

The sunroof is a conventional sliding power sunroof. When sunroof opens, glass slides into the roof between headliner and roof structure. The sunroof switch, located above rearview mirror, is a one-touch control button for open, dose, and vent position of sunroof panel. The switch supplies a signal to power sunroof control module. The control module receives these signals and controls a relay which drives power sunroof motor. The module operates sunroof in normal open and close modes as well as vent mode. The control module is internal to sunroof motor and cannot be serviced separately. The switch is made up of two single-pole, single-throw switches with a common feed.

To adjust position of sunroof, ignition must be in RUN position. Press CLOSE/VENT side of switch to first position to raise rear of sunroof to provide additional venting. Press open side of switch to close sunroof from vent positions. Press OPEN switch to open roof 3/4 way. Press open side of switch again to open to full open position. To close sunroof press and hold CLOSE portion of switch.

As panel opens, it moves sunshade to open position as well. The sunshade can be manually opened and closed from inside car while glass panel is in closed position. The sunshade is designed to stay in open position while glass panel is in open position.

Any water that passes roof seal is drained from sunroof tray by four tubes that lead from corners of tray to rocker panels of vehicle. The tray which acts as a framework for sunroof assembly, has a water channel that encircles sunroof opening and directs water to drain tubes.

IMPORTANT: With headliner removed, sunroof can be manually cycled with a regular screwdriver. This tool fits into drive gear, and when turned will operate sunroof drive cables and simultaneously open or close sunroof.
