Oil Pump Replacement

OIL PUMP REPLACEMENT (IN-VEHICLE)

TOOLS REQUIRED
- J35268A Camshaft/Front Main Seal Installer
- J42065 Crank Hub Holding Tool
- J42098 Crank Hub Torx Socket

REMOVAL





1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Drain coolant.
3. Remove intake air cleaner.





4. Remove front timing belt cover.
5. Remove timing belt.
6. Remove rear timing belt cover.
7. Remove A/C compressor and power steering pump bracket bolts.
8. Position A/C compressor and power steering pump bracket out of the way of oil pump housing and secure.
9. Remove generator lower mounting bolt.
10. Loosen upper generator mounting bolt.
11. Pivot generator out of the way and secure.





12. Remove oil pan.
13. Remove oil pump pickup tube.
14. Mount Crank Hub Holding Tool J42065 to crankshaft drive gear.
15. Use Crank Hub Torx Socket J42098 to remove crankshaft drive gear bolt.





16. Remove crankshaft drive gear.





17. Remove oil pump bolts.
18. Remove three oil pan housing bolts that thread into oil pump.
19. Remove oil pump.
20. Remove front main oil seal and collar from oil pump.
21. Clean oil pump sealing surfaces if pump is to be reinstalled.





22. Clean engine block and upper oil pan housing sealing surfaces.
23. Ensure all old sealant, gasket material and residual oil is removed.

INSTALLATION





1. Coat pump side of new oil pump gasket in crosshatched, areas shown in illustration with a thin, even coating of anaerobic sealant Loctite- 518 (or equivalent).

IMPORTANT: Do not cover and/or restrict gasket openings with excess sealant.

2. Install oil pump gasket.
3. Install oil pump and align with the guide pins.
4. Apply thread sealant Loctite- 242 (or equivalent) to oil pump bolts and install bolts.
Torque:
Oil Pump Bolts: 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.)





5. Install oil pump collar.
6. Install front main oil seal. Coat lip of front main oil seal with a small amount of clean engine oil to aid in installation.
7. Use Camshaft/Front Main Seal Installer J35268A to install front main oil seal.
8. Ensure that front main oil seal is fully and evenly seated.





9. Install crankshaft drive gear.
10. Install a new crankshaft drive gear bolt.
Torque:
Crankshaft Drive Gear Bolt: 250 Nm (184 ft. lbs.) + 45 degrees + 15 degrees





11. Install oil pump pickup tube.
12. Install oil pump pickup tube bolts.
Torque:
Oil Pickup Tube Bolts: 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.)
13. Install oil pan.





14. Release and pivot generator into place and install the generator lower mounting bolt
Torque:
Generator Mounting Bolts: 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)
15. Position A/C compressor and power steering pump bracket.
16. Install A/C compressor and power steering pump bracket bolts.
Torque:
A/C Compressor Bracket Bolt: 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)
17. Install rear timing belt cover.





IMPORTANT: The oil pump bolts must be re-tightened to the appropriate specifications AFTER the generator mounting bolts and the drive belt idler pulley for camshafts 3 and 4 have been tightened to specifications to allow for proper compression of the oil pump gasket.

18. Install and tighten drive belt idler pulley for camshafts 3 and 4 Re-tighten the oil pump bolts.
Torque:
Oil Pump Bolts: 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.)





19. Install timing belt.
20. Install intake air cleaner.
21. Reconnect negative battery cable.
Torque:
Battery Terminal Bolts: 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.)
22. Fill cooling system.
