42. Crankshaft and Bearing Installation
CRANKSHAFT AND BEARINGS (UNIT REPAIR)TOOLS REQUIRED
- J44628 Bearing Bridge Sleeve Wrench
INSTALLATION
1. Install crankshaft reluctor ring.
2. Install crankshaft reluctor bolts. Use new crankshaft sensor bolts.
Torque:
Crankshaft Reluctor Ring Screw: 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.)
3. Install crankshaft bearings to engine block.
4. Install the crankshaft to the engine block.
5. Apply clean engine oil to the bearing surfaces.
6. Install main bearings to the main bearing caps.
7. Apply RTV sealer, Loctite 5900 or equivalent to the fourth main bearing cap.
8. Install main bearing caps to the engine block. Place the main bearing caps in numerical order.
IMPORTANT: Orient the torsional bridge with the arrow pointing to the front of the engine.
9. Install crankshaft bearing bridge.
10. Use new main bearing cap bolts or damage may occur when the final tightening is performed.
11. Install main bearing cap bolts loosely.
12. Clean the old thread locking compound from the adjusting sleeves.
13. Back out crankshaft bearing bridge adjusting sleeves until the bushings do not contact the engine block when the bridge is fully seated. Tighten main bearing cap bolts in three passes.
Torque:
Crankshaft Bearing Bridge Bolts: 60 + 15 degrees Nm (44 + 15 degrees ft. lbs.)
14. Apply thread locking compound Loctite- 272 or equivalent to the crankshaft bearing bridge adjusting sleeves.
15. Tighten crankshaft bearing bridge adjusting sleeves, using Bearing Bridge Sleeve Wrench J44628.
Torque:
Crankshaft Bearing Bridge Adjusting Sleeves: 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.)
16. Tighten outer crankshaft bearing bridge bolts.
Torque:
Crankshaft Bearing Bridge Bolts (Outer): 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)
