Timing Belt Cover Replacement - Front

TIMING BELT COVER REPLACEMENT - FRONT (IN-VEHICLE)

TOOLS REQUIRED
- J43405 Engine Support Fixture Adapter
- SA9105E Engine Support Fixture (3 Bar)

REMOVAL





1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED. MAKE SURE HOIST DOES NOT CONTACT FUEL OR BRAKE LINES.

3. Raise and support vehicle.





4. Remove right front wheel.
5. Remove splash shield bolts.
6. Remove splash shield.
7. Lower vehicle.





8. Loosen water pump pulley bolts. The accessory drive belt tension provides resistance to enable loosening of bolts. Do not remove fastening bolts at this time.
9. Install engine support fixture and adapters, Engine Support Fixture (3 Bar) SA9105E and Engine Support Fixture Adapter J43405.





10. Remove accessory drive belt using a 15 mm wrench to compress tensioner.





NOTICE: Removal of accessory drive belt requires removal of right front engine mount.

11. Remove right engine-to-body mount fasteners.





12. Remove engine mount bracket from engine.





13. Remove water pump pulley bolts.
14. Remove water pump pulley.
15. Remove power steering pump pulley bolts.
16. Remove power steering pump pulley.





17. Remove accessory drive belt tensioner bolts.
18. Remove accessory drive belt tensioner.





19. Remove crankshaft balancer.





NOTICE: Disconnecting the A/C pressure connector will allow additional slack so that harness may be secured to top of engine.

20. Remove wiring harness channel from cover and secure away from front of engine.
21. Remove front timing belt cover bolts.
22. Remove front timing belt cover.
23. Remove transfer wiring harness channel.
24. Inspect sealing strip on outer edge of front timing belt cover for cracks and/or tears. Replace if necessary.

INSTALLATION





1. Install front timing belt cover.
2. Install front timing belt cover bolts.
Torque:
Front Timing Belt Cover Bolt: 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.)





3. Install crankshaft balancer.
Torque:
Crankshaft Balancer Bolt: 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)





4. Install accessory drive belt tensioner.
5. Install accessory drive belt tensioner bolts.
Torque:
Belt Tensioner Bolts: 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)
6. Install power steering pump pulley.
7. Install power steering pump pulley bolts.
8. Snug power steering pump pulley bolts. The bolts will be tightened to proper specification when serpentine drive belt is installed.
9. Install water pump pulley.
10. Install water pump pulley bolts. Snug the water pump pulley bolts. The bolts will be tightened to proper specification when the accessory drive belt is installed.
11. Install water pump pulley screws.
12. Route wiring harness into wiring harness channel.
13. Install wiring harness channel cover.





14. Install wiring harness channel extension to right lower side of wiring harness channel
15. Install accessory drive belt
16. Tighten water pump pulley and power steering pulley bolts
Torque:
Water Pump Pulley Bolt: 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.)
Power Steering Pump Pulley Bolt: 20 Nm (15 inch lbs.)





17. Install engine mount bracket and tighten fasteners
Torque:
Engine Mount Bracket Bolt: 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.)





18. Install engine mount to frame rail and engine mount bracket
Torque:
Engine Mount-to-Bracket Bolt: 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.)
19. Remove engine support fixture

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED. MAKE SURE HOIST DOES NOT CONTACT FUEL OR BRAKE LINES.

20. Raise vehicle





21. Install splash shield.
22. Install splash shield bolts. Tighten splash shield bolts until fully seated. Do not strip bolts.
23. Install right front wheel.
Torque:
Wheel Bolts: 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.)





24. Lower vehicle.
25. Install air cleaner assembly.
26. Reconnect negative battery cable.
Torque:
Battery Terminal Bolts: 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.)
