Timing Belt Cover Replacement - Rear

TIMING BELT COVER REPLACEMENT - REAR (IN-VEHICLE)

TOOLS REQUIRED
- J42069 Timing Belt Alignment Kit

REMOVAL





1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.





3. Remove front timing belt cover.





4. Remove timing belt.
5. As a precaution, rotate crankshaft counterclockwise to 60 degrees BTDC position to prevent valve/piston contact.





6. Remove camshaft gears. Use Timing Belt Alignment Kit J42069- 1 and J42069-2 camshaft locks to lock gears when initially loosening camshaft gear bolts.





7. Remove timing bell tensioner bracket bolts.
8. Remove timing belt tensioner bracket.





9. Remove lower timing belt idler pulley bolt.
10. Remove lower timing belt idler pulley.





11. Remove rear timing belt cover bolts.
12. Remove rear timing belt threaded pin.
13. Remove rear timing belt cover.

INSTALLATION





1. Install rear timing belt cover
2. Coat threaded pin with Threadlocker Loctite- 242 compound or equivalent
3. Install rear timing belt cover bolts
Torque:
Rear Timing Belt Cover Bolt: 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.)
4. Install rear timing belt threaded pin
Torque:
Rear Timing Belt Cover Threaded Pin: 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)

NOTICE: The upper idler pulley (cams 1 & 2) and lower idler puller (cams 3 & 4) use different bolts and spacers of different thicknesses. The upper idler pulley uses a narrow 5 mm (0.20 inch) thick spacer and a black bolt. The lower idler puller uses a 11 mm (0.40 inch) thick spacer and a silver bolt.

IMPORTANT: Tighten timing belt idler pulley bolt until snug After the final timing belt adjustments are made, the bolt will be tightened to specifications.

5. Install both timing belt idler pulleys.
Torque:
Idler Pulley Fastener: 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)





6. Install timing belt tensioner bracket.
7. Install timing belt tensioner bracket bolts.
Torque:
Timing Belt Tensioner Bracket Bolt: 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)





8. Install camshaft gears and new bolts. Use timing belt alignment kit J42069- l and J42069-2 camshaft locks to lock gears when torquing camshaft gear bolts.
Torque:
Camshaft Gear Bolt: 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)+ 60 degrees + 15 degrees





9. Install and adjust timing belt.





10. Install front timing belt cover.
11. Install front timing belt cover bolts.
Torque:
Front Timing Belt Cover Bolt: 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.)





12. Install intake air resonator.
13. Reconnect negative battery cable.
Torque:
Battery Terminal Bolts: 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.)
