Front Lower

LOWER CONTROL ARM

^ TOOLS REQUIRED
- KM-907 Control Arm Bushing Remover/Installer
- KM-508 Control Arm Bushing Remover/Installer
- KM-671 Bushing Remover/Installer

REMOVAL

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON THE HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.





1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove wheel and tire assembly.





3. Remove ball stud bolt and nut.

NOTICE: Care must be taken to prevent damage to speed sensor ring on ABS vehicles. Minor surface damage to speed sensor ring can result in ABS system malfunction.

4. Separate ball stud from steering knuckle using a pry bar.
5. Remove lower control arm to frame assembly bolts and discard.
6. Remove lower control arm from vehicle.

DISASSEMBLY





1. Using special tools Control Arm Bushing Remover/Installer KM-508A-3 and KM-508-1 press out front bushing.





2. Using special tools Control Arm Bushing Remover/Installer KM - 907-21, KM-907-22, and Bushing Removal/Installer KM-671 to press out rear control arm bushing.

ASSEMBLY





1. Using Bushing press KM-508-1, KM-508-2 and KM-508-3 press in front control arm bushing.





2. Using special tools KM-907-23, KM-907-24 and KM-671 press in rear control arm bushings.

INSTALLATION





1. Install control arm onto frame assembly.
2. Install control arm to frame using new bolts.
^ Control Arm-to-Frame: 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.) + 75° to 90°





NOTICE: Use a new bolt and nut. Torque retention of old fasteners may not be sufficient.

3. Install ball stud to steering knuckle bolt and nut. Hold the bolt while tightening the nut.
^ Lower Control Arm-to-Steering Knuckle: 100 Nm (75 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: Before installing wheels, remove rust or corrosion from wheel mounting surfaces and brake rotors. Failure to do so can cause wheel bolts to loosen in service.

4. Position wheel onto hub.
5. Install wheel bolts and tighten in a crisscross pattern.
5.1. Hand tighten all five wheel bolts.
5.2. Use a torque wrench to tighten wheel bolts using a crisscross pattern.
^ Wheel Bolts (Initial Torque): 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.)
5.3. Use a torque wrench to final tighten wheel bolts using a crisscross pattern.
^ Wheel Bolts (Final Torque): 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.)
6. Lower vehicle from hoist.
7. Perform vehicle alignment.
