Heater Core Replacement - RHD Domestic Only

REMOVAL




1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove air cleaner housing cover and air induction hose at intake manifold.
3. Drain cooling system.
4. Remove heater inlet hose from engine outlet and blow remainder of coolant out of heater core with a low pressure air hose to prevent spilling coolant on vehicle interior when removing core.
5. Install heater inlet hose on engine outlet and position clamp at 4 o'clock position as viewed from left side of vehicle.




6. Remove right lower trim panel extension by pulling outward at dual lock locations. Then rotate panel outward to disengage hinges from console.




7. Remove shift lock cable from clamp at front edge of heater pipe cover.
8. Remove pipe cover screws and remove pipe cover.

NOTE: Place absorbent towels under heater core pipe to heater core joints to prevent spilling any residual coolant on carpeting.




9. Remove heater core pipe to core screws.




10. Remove O-ring and plastic seal from each joint and discard.




11. Rotate upper pipe upward, and lower pipe downward, and pull heater core Out of HVAC module.

INSTALLATION

IMPORTANT:
^ Service heater core assemblies include the pipes attached to the core. Remove the pipes from the heater core and save O-rings and seals. Return unused pipes with used heater core.
^ Do not install heater core upside down. Core openings should be offset towards top of core.




1. Install heater core into HVAC module and press firmly to seat.

NOTE: Install plastic seal with barbs toward heater core. Improper installation will damage seal and prevent joint sealing.

IMPORTANT: To ease assembly of pipe to heater core, dip O-ring in coolant to make tacky.




2. Install upper pipe plastic seal, O-ring, and pipe to heater core.

IMPORTANT: Start all screws before tightening.

3. Install upper pipe to heater core screws and tighten.




4. Install lower pipe plastic seal, O-ring, and pipe to heater core.

IMPORTANT: Start all screws before tightening.

5. Install lower pipe to heater core screws and tighten.




6. Install heater core pipe cover and screws.
7. Install park lock cable into clamp at front edge of heater pipe cover.




8. Install right lower trim panel extensions by inserting hinges into console openings. Then rotate closed and push in at dual lock location.
9. Fill and pressure test the cooling system.
10. Connect negative battery cable.
