Keyless Entry - Technical Installation Instructions

File in Section: 08 - Body and Accessories

Bulletin No.: 03-08-52-006

Issue Date: October, 2003

Subject:
Installation of Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) to I0N2 Vehicles

Models Affected:
2003-2004 Saturn I0N2 Vehicles produced without convenience package (Vehicles with Power Locks but No Power Windows)

Attention: Fixed Operations Manager and Technician

Purpose:

The purpose of this bulletin is to provide technical instructions for adding RKE to I0N2 vehicles not equipped with RKE as original equipment. The parts required to perform this procedure are a service body control module (BCM) and key fobs (transmitters). The service BCM contains the necessary hardware to allow RKE to function. This service BCM is the production part used in 10N2 vehicles with the convenience package and in all I0N3 vehicles. ION1 vehicles do not have power door locks; therefore adding RKE to ION1 vehicles is not possible.

Service Procedure:

Important:
When installing a BCM as an upgrade to obtain RKE, it is necessary to use the special labor operation provided at the end of this bulletin. The special labor operation informs the warranty system that any future repairs within the warranty period may be recognized as a warranty repair.

1. Write down mileage in current BCM.

2. Replace original BCM with new service BCM. Refer to "Body Control Module Replacement" procedure in the Body and Accessories section of the 2003 or 2004 Saturn ION Service Manual, Vol. 3.

3. Connect vehicle to service stall system.

4. Select "Service Programming System" from main screen.

5. Select "Replace and Reprogram" option.

6. Type in correct VIN when prompted.

7. Select all options for vehicle (RKE is not a selectable choice, because the hardware for the RKE is located within the BCM).

8. Enter vehicle mileage as noted from original BCM.

9. Select "BCM" as Supported Controller to reprogram.

10. Select available calibration.

11. After calibration is complete, turn vehicle to Off for 30 seconds and perform Passlock(TM) relearn.

Refer to "Programming Theft Deterrent System Components" procedure in the Body and Accessories section of the 2003 or 2004 Saturn ION Service Manual, Vol. 3.

12. "Learn" key fobs to BCM using Tech 2 Scan Tool (up to 4 ION key fobs can be associated with one BCM). Refer to "Programming RKE Transmitters" procedure in the Body and Accessories section of the 2003 or 2004 Saturn ION Service Manual, Vol. 3.
