Body - Front Door Lock Cylinder Missing/Not Flush

File in Section: 08 - Body and Accessories

Bulletin No.: 03-08-64-035

Issue Date: October, 2003

Subject:
Front Side Door Lock Cylinder is Missing or Does Not Sit Flush to the Outer Door Panel (Replace Front Side Door Lock Cylinder Retainer)

Models Affected:

2003 Saturn ION Vehicles built up to and including VIN Breakpoint 3Z162616

Attention: Technician

Condition:

Some customers may comment that one or both front side door lock cylinders are either missing (fallen into the door structure) or not sitting flush to the exterior door panel.

Cause:

The front side door lock cylinder retainer installed in production may not have the proper retaining features (barbs) added to the legs of the lock cylinder retainer. This can result in the lock cylinder retainer becoming partially or fully dislodged from the cylinder, allowing the cylinder to move. The amount of movement depends on how far the lock cylinder retainer is dislodged from the cylinder.

Correction:

Remove and discard original lock cylinder retainer and replace with service part, P/N 20650005. Refer to Door Lock Cylinder Replacement" procedure in the Doors subsection of the Body and Accessories section of the 2003 Saturn ION Service Manual, Vol. 3.
