Models Affected:
2003-2004 Saturn ION Vehicles built up to and including VIN Breakpoint 4Z202060
Attention: Fixed Operations Manager and Technician
Some vehicles may exhibit DTC P0132, P0138 and/or P0172 or drivability symptoms related to a rich combustion mixture.
In some cases, leakage through the purge valve may cause a rich engine condition detected by either of the listed DTCs.
Diagnostic Procedures
1. If a vehicle is being serviced for any of the issues mentioned above, refer to the appropriate DTC diagnostic procedure in the Engine Controls - 2.2L section of the 2003 or 2004 Saturn ION Service Manual, Vol.1 or in SI ("DTC List," SI Document ID # 882200 [2003] or 1285325 [2004]) to diagnose the condition.
2. If the condition is not corrected after completing the Service Manual diagnostic procedure for the specific DTC, continue with the diagnostic procedure for DTC P0496 (Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Flow During Non-Purge).
