Subject:
Excessive Buzzing, Growling Noise, or Vibration from Fuel Pump
(Replace Fuel Pump Assembly)
Models Affected:
2003 Saturn ION Vehicles built up to and including VIN breakpoint 3Z188517
Attention:
Fixed Operations Manager and Technician
This bulletin is being revised to update the VIN breakpoint and part number information.
Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 03-06-04-024 (Section 06 - Engine).
Condition:
Some customers may comment on excessive buzzing, growling noise, or vibration coming from the rear of the vehicle.
Cause:
The fuel pressure regulator located in the fuel pump module may cause noise or vibration.
Correction:
Replace the fuel pump module assembly.
Service Procedure:
1. Test drive vehicle to confirm condition.
2. If excessive noise or vibration is determined to be coming from the fuel pump, replace fuel pump module assembly with P/N 22727498. Refer to "Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement" procedure in the Engine Controls section of the 2003 ION Service Manual, Vol. I.
3. Verify that the noise is gone after repairs are complete
