33. Rotational Torque Measurement Procedure

Rotational Torque Measurement Procedure
^ Tools Required
- J 46318 Rotational Torque Adapter

1. Rotate the transmission assembly so that the torque converter housing side is facing up.
2. Install the front differential assembly (13) into the empty transmission case.

3. Install the torque converter housing assembly (10) to the transmission case assembly.
4. Install 10 M8 x 1.25 x 30 mm bolts (1) and hand tighten.
5. Install 1 M8 x 1.25 x 30 mm Torx 40 bolts (2) and hand tighten.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

6. Tighten the torque converter housing bolts in sequence.
^ Tighten the bolts to 23.5 - 35.3 Nm (17.33 - 26.00 ft. lbs.).

7. Insert J 46318 into the axle shaft opening of the differential and rotate J 46318 until it engages with the differential pinion shaft (645).
8. Using a torque wrench, measure the rotational torque required to slowly rotate the front differential assembly and note the readings. Refer to Front Differential Gear Assembly, Unloaded Rotating Torque in Transmission Clearance Specifications.
Rotational Torque Specification
Specification should be within 0.70 - 1.20 Nm (6 - 11 inch lbs.).
9. Compare this measurement with the specification in Transmission Clearance Specifications. If the obtained measurement is within specifications, the differential shim replacement is not necessary.
If obtained measurement is not within the listed specifications, the front differential bearing race shim must be replaced.
10. Remove J 46318 from the front differential assembly.
11. Remove the torque converter housing assembly and the front differential assembly from the transmission case.
