49. Front Internal Gear and Low and Reverse Clutch Installation
Front Internal Gear and Low and Reverse Clutch Installation^ Tools Required
- J 28585 Snap Ring Remover
1. Install the front internal gear thrust washer race (530) on top of the output gear assembly.
2. Install the front internal gear thrust bearing assembly (519) on top of the front internal gear thrust washer race (530).
Important: The front internal gear (526) should turn freely counterclockwise, and should lock clockwise.
3. Install the front internal gear and low clutch sprag assembly (526).
Important: Make sure you have the correct number of plates, and that they are in the correct order.
4. Install the low and reverse clutch backing plate (515)
5. Install the 3 steel plates (517) and the 4 fiber plates (516).
6. Install the low and reverse clutch backing plate (515).
Important:
^ Make sure that the end gap of the low and reverse clutch plate retaining ring (518) is not aligned with one of the cutouts in the transmission case assembly.
^ The low and reverse clutch plate retaining ring (518) open end should point into the transmission case assembly side as shown.
7. Using J28585 install the low and reverse clutch plate retaining ring (518), making sure that the openings of the retaining ring face inwards to the case.
Important: Make sure that the front internal gear thrust bearing assembly (529) is installed with the correct side up.
8. Install the front internal gear thrust bearing assembly (529) - black side up.
