Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement
Tools Required
^ J36346 Fascia Retainer Remover
^ J44810 Transaxle Range Switch Alignment Tool
Removal Procedure
1. Shift the transmission into neutral.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Disconnect the transmission control module connectors, noting proper orientation.
4. Remove the bolt and disconnect the large engine control module connector (4).
5. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer near the engine control module.
6. Disconnect the EVAP purge solenoid connector and lay wiring harness aside.
7. Using the J36346 or equivalent, remove the control cable assembly from the park/neutral position switch lever.
8. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch harness connector.
9. Remove the park/neutral position switch lever nut and lever.
10. Remove the park/neutral position switch bolts.
Important: Ensure that the manual shaft is fully seated into the transmission.
11. Remove the park/neutral position switch from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Place the transmission manual shift shaft in the neutral position.
2. Align the flats on the manual shift shaft with the flats on the park/neutral position switch, while installing the switch.
3. Loosely install the park/neutral position switch bolts.
4. If installing the old park/neutral switch, insert the J44810 as shown and rotate the switch until the tool drops into position.
5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten the park/neutral position switch bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).
6. Install the park/neutral position switch lever and nut.
Tighten the nut to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
7. Connect the park/neutral position switch harness connector.
8. Install the control cable assembly to the park/neutral position switch lever and verify proper operation.
9. Connect the EVAP purge solenoid connector.
10. Install the engine wiring harness retainer near the engine control module.
11. Install the large engine control module connector (4) and bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.).
12. Connect the transmission control module connectors to the proper orientation.
13. Connect the negative battery cable.
