Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Adjustments
Park/Neutral Position Switch Adjustment^ Tools Required
- J 36346 Fascia Retainer Remover
- J 44810 Transaxle Range Switch Alignment Tool
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Place the transmission shift lever in the neutral position.
3. Using the J 36346 or equivalent, disconnect the shift cable from the park/neutral shift lever.
4. Remove the park/neutral position switch lever and nut.
5. Loosen the park/neutral position switch bolts.
6. Install the J 44810 to the manual shaft in order to align the pointer to the neutral base line.
7. Rotate the park/neutral position switch as necessary until the tool drops into the hole on the park/neutral position switch.
8. Remove the J 44810 from the manual shaft.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
9. Tighten the park/neutral position switch bolts.
^ Tighten the bolt to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).
10. Install the park/neutral position switch lever and nut.
^ Tighten the nut to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
11. Connect the shift cable to the park/neutral shift lever.
12. Verify the park/neutral position switch adjustment by starting the vehicle in all ranges. If the transmission starts in any range other than park or neutral, readjust the park/neutral position switch.
