Indicator/Warning Message Description and Operation

CHANGE OIL SOON

The driver information center (DIC) displays the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message when the engine control module (ECM) determines that the engine oil life is less than 10 percent. The ECM sends a serial data message to the BCM to request the DIC to display the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message. After the oil is changed, reset the engine oil monitor. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting.

DOOR AJAR

The IPC Illuminates the door ajar indicator in the driver information center (DIC) when the body control module (BCM) detects that the driver or passenger door is open with ignition ON. The IPC receives a serial data message from the BCM requesting illumination of the door ajar indicator. If this message is displayed and the vehicle speed is speed is greater than 4.8 km/h (3 mph).

ENGINE OIL PRESSURE

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the engine oil pressure (EOP) indicator when the engine control module (ECM) detects the oil pressure is low from the EOP sensor/switch. The ECM sends a serial data message to the body control module (BCM) indicating a low engine oil pressure condition. The IPC receives a serial data message from the BCM requesting the EOP indicator.

Hybrid Economy Indicator

The hybrid economy indicator illuminates in the IPC when the ECM detects that the vehicle is achieving a better than normal fuel economy. The ECM sends a serial data message to the BCM requesting the IPC to illuminate hybrid economy indicator.

ICE POSSIBLE

The driver information center (DIC) displays the ICE POSSIBLE message when the ambient air temperature drops below 2°C (36°F). When the ambient air temperature rises above 5.5°C (42°F), the ICE POSSIBLE message turns OFF. The DIC receives a serial data message indicating the ambient air temperature from the body control module (BCM).

KM/H and MPH
km/h
- The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the km/h indicator when the cluster detects that Metric units have been requested.

MPH
- The IPC displays the MPH indicator when the cluster detects that English units have been requested.

LOW FUEL

The driver information center (DIC) displays the low fuel indicator as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The ECM monitors the fuel level sensor signal and will request the LOW FUEL message from the body control module (BCM) when the fuel level is less than 14 percent. The DIC receives a serial data message from the BCM requesting display of the LOW FUEL message.

LOW OIL LEVEL

The driver information center (DIC) displays the LOW OIL LEVEL message when the engine control module (ECM) detects a low oil level condition from the engine oil level sensor/switch. The ECM sends a serial data message to the body control module (BCM) requesting a low oil level message. The DIC receives a serial data message from the BCM requesting the engine oil level message.

SERVICE VEHICLE SOON

The driver information center (DIC) displays the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON message when the following conditions exists:

* The body control module (BCM) detects certain malfunctions that are not emissions related. The DIC receives a serial data message from the BCM requesting the display of SERVICE VEHICLE SOON message.
* The DIC detects a loss of serial data communications with the BCM.

TRUNK AJAR

The driver information center (DIC) displays the door ajar message when the body control module (BCM) detects that the trunk is open and the ignition is ON. The BCM sends a serial data message to the DIC requesting the TRUNK AJAR message to be displayed. If the message is displayed and the vehicle speed is greater than 4.8 km/h (3 mph), a chime will sound to alert the vehicle operator that the rear compartment lid has inadvertently been left ajar or open.
