Date: June 21, 2006

INFORMATION

Subject:
Installation of Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) to ION.2 Vehicles

Models:
2003-2007 Saturn ION.2 Vehicles

Not Equipped with Convenience Package (Vehicles with Power Locks but No Power Windows)

Supercede:

This bulletin is being revised to add the 2006-2007 model years and update the part numbers. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 03-08-52-006A (Section 08 - Body & Accessories).

The purpose of this bulletin is to provide the service procedure for adding RKE to ION.2 vehicles not equipped with RKE as original equipment. The parts required to perform this procedure are a service body control module (BCM) and key fobs. The service BCM contains the necessary hardware to allow the RKE to function. This service BCM is the production part used in ION.2 vehicles with the convenience package and in all ION.3 vehicles. ION.1 vehicles do not have power door locks; therefore, adding RKE to ION.1 vehicles is not possible.

Service Procedure

Important:
U.S. Retailers - When installing a BCM as an upgrade to obtain RKE, it is necessary to use the special labor operation provided at the end of this bulletin. The special labor operation informs the warranty system that any future repairs within the warranty period may be recognized as a warranty repair.

1. Write down the mileage in the current BCM.

2. Replace the original BCM with a new service BCM. Refer to the Body Control Module Replacement procedure in SI or the appropriate model year Saturn ION Service Manual.

3. Connect the vehicle to the Saturn Service Stall System (SSS).

4. Select "Service Programming System" from the main screen.

5. Select the "Replace and Reprogram" option.

6. Type in the correct VIN when prompted.

7. Select all options for the vehicle (RKE is not a selectable choice because the hardware for the RKE is located within the BCM).

8. Enter the vehicle mileage as noted from the original BCM.

9. Select "BCM" as the Supported Controller in order to reprogram.

10. Select the available calibration.

11. After the calibration is complete, turn the ignition OFF for 30 seconds and perform Passlock(TM) relearn. Refer to the Programming Theft Deterrent System Components procedure in SI or the appropriate model year Saturn ION Service Manual.

12. "Learn" the key fobs to the BCM using a Tech 2(R) scan tool (up to four ION key fobs can be associated with one BCM). Refer to the RKE Transmitter Programming procedure in SI or the appropriate model year Saturn ION Service Manual.
