Headlining Trim Panel Replacement (with Sunroof)

Removal Procedure

Caution: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.

Caution: Refer to Restraint System Service Precautions.

1. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
2. Remove the coat hooks.






Notice: Do not pull on the edges of the center high-mounted stop lamp cover. Damage to the cover may result. Slide your fingers between the cover and the lamp, and carefully pull the cover down.

3. Remove the trim panel from the high mount stop lamp by pulling at the clip locations.
4. Remove the center high mount stop lamp.
5. Remove the garnish molding from the upper lock pillar.




6. Remove the rear push-in retainer.
7. Remove the dome lamp.
8. Remove the sunshades.
9. Remove the sunshade retainers.
10. Remove the windshield garnish moldings.
11. On the sedan, remove the garnish molding from the upper center pillar. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar Upper.




12. On the coupe, remove the door striker trim by pulling on the trim.




13. On the coupe, remove the anchor bolts from the front seat belts.
14. On the coupe, remove the seat belt webbing from the front seat head restraint webbing guides.




15. Disconnect the electrical harnesses.
16. Disengage any rosebud retainers which hold the wiring to the sheet metal.
17. Position the front seats in the fully rearward and fully reclined positions.
18. Remove the door seals from the headliner edge.




19. Starting on the right and the left sides of the sun roof opening, carefully disengage the hook and loop fasteners which hold the headliner to the roof panel.
20. Disconnect the sunroof motor wiring harness.
21. Lower the headliner.




22. On the coupe, remove the trim bezels from the headliner.

Notice: Use care when removing or installing the headliner. Excessive bending will damage the headliner.

23. For the sedan, bring the headliner out through the rear passenger side door.
24. If equipped, remove the reading lamp. Refer to Reading Lamp Replacement.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the reading lamp.
2. Place the headliner in the vehicle.
3. Connect the sunroof motor wiring harness.




4. On the coupe, install the trim bezels on the headliner.
5. Position the headliner against the roof of the vehicle.
6. Press around the sunroof opening over the hook and loop locations to engage the hooks.
7. While holding the headliner in place, replace the door seals over the headliner edge.
8. Connect the electrical harnesses.




9. Install the rosebud retainers which hold the wiring to the sheet metal.
10. On the sedan, install the garnish molding to the upper center pillar. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar Upper.
11. Install the center high mount stop lamp.
12. Install the windshield garnish moldings.




13. On the coupe, install the door striker trim by pushing until the trim clips engage.






Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

14. On the coupe, install the front seat belt anchor bolts.

Tighten the bolt to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).

15. On the coupe, replace the webbing in the front seat head restraint webbing guides.
16. Install the sunshade retainers.
17. Install the sunshades.
18. Install the dome lamp.




19. Install the rear push-in retainer.
20. Install the garnish molding to the upper lock pillar.




21. Position the trim panel to the high mounted stop lamp.
22. Push on the panel to engage the clips.
23. Install the coat hooks.
24. Enable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
