Folding Top Cover Replacement

Removal Procedure

Important: Do Not remove the headliner from the vehicle to do this procedure.

1. Remove the front retainer from the number 1 bow. Refer to Folding Top Cover No. 1 Bow Retainer Replacement.
2. Disconnect the rear tack strip retainer from the vehicle. Refer to Folding Top Cover Rear Retainer Replacement.
3. Remove the left and right side front weatherstrips. Refer to Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Replacement.
4. Remove the left and right side front weatherstrip retainers. Refer to Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Retainer Replacement.





Important: The buttress anchor pin is not required to be removed.

5. Remove the plastic retainer and buttress seal around the buttress pin.
6. Slide the outer top material off the buttress shoe.
7. Drill out the rivet holding the inner buttress fabric to buttress shoe.
8. Slide the inner buttress fabric off the buttress shoe.




9. Disconnect the 2 elastic straps at the rear pivot bracket.
10. Remove the side tension cable and slider cable.
11. Position the rear window to expose the rear of the number 4 bow.
12. Drill out the rivet used to secure the plastic retainer to the folding top cover at the number 4 bow position.
Disengage the plastic retainer from the number 4 bow.
13. Pull back the top cover fabric from the front and center bows and side rails.
14. With the aid of an assistant, remove the folding top cover from the folding top frame.
15. Remove the staples which secure the top cover to the rear tack strip retainer.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the folding top cover retainer to the number 4 bow.
2. Install the rivets to the folding top cover retainer to the number 4 bow.
3. Position the rear tack strip retainer to the vehicle.
4. With the aid of an assistant, position the folding top cover to the folding top frame.
5. Reposition the top cover fabric to the front and center bows and side rails.




6. Rivet the inner buttress fabric to the buttress shoe, then slide the outer fabric over the shoe.
7. Slide the top material and buttress fabric on to the buttress shoe.
8. Install the plastic retainer and buttress seal around the buttress pin.




9. Install the side tension cable and slider cable.
10. Connect the 2 elastic straps at the rear pivot bracket with rivets.
11. Position the folding top fabric to the number 1 bow and glue in position and then install the retainer. Refer to Folding Top Cover No. 1 Bow Retainer Replacement.
12. Position the folding top fabric to the rear tack strip retainer and staple into position, allowing for adjustment of the fabric.
13. Inspect the folding top and fabric for proper fit.
14. Complete stapling the folding top fabric to the rear tack strip retainer and install the retainer. Refer to Folding Top Cover Rear Retainer Replacement.
15. Install the left and right side front weatherstrip retainers. Refer to Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Retainer Replacement.
16. Install the left and right side front weatherstrips. Refer to Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Replacement.
17. Inspect the folding top for proper fit and operation. Refer to Folding Top Adjustment.
