Condition
Some customers may comment that when washing their car by hand or at a car wash, water may enter on the left or right side of the car at the windshield pillar roof area.
Cause
This condition may be caused by water not draining properly.
Correction
Install a folding top side front weatherstrip retainer. The retainer has two pieces of foam to help direct water to the new notch in the retainer that will allow the water to drain properly.
Important:
Place a seat cover or shop blanket over the seats before making the repair.
1. Fold the top back.
2. Remove the two screws on the front end of the weatherstrip.
3. Loosen both ends of the weather-strip before pulling the weatherstrip out of the retainer.
4. With a marker or paint pin, mark the location of the retainer for reassembly. Because the retainer is slotted, you need to mark the side to side and top to bottom location.
5. Remove the four screws from the retainer. Remove the retainer.
6. Line up the new retainer with the mark and install the screws.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
7. Install the folding top side front weatherstrip into the retainer.
8. Install the two screws.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
9. Return the top to the closed position.
