The propeller shaft is a tube with a rubber coupling at one end and a constant velocity joint on the other which do not require periodic maintenance, that transmit power from the transmission output shaft to the rear differential.

A one piece propeller shaft uses a constant velocity joint in place of a slip yoke to connect the driveline to the transmission.
