Circuit/System Description
The ignition switch is integrated into the steering column control module (SCCM). The steering column module provides power to the ignition switch. The SCCM monitors the ignition switch position and evaluates the switch position for any failures or malfunctions. The SCCM detects the position of the key and sends this information via the serial data circuit to other modules.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The system voltage is between 9-16 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
* Unplausible state at the ignition switch.
* Ignition switch position evaluation failure.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* The SCCM stores DTC B2961 in memory.
* System power mode stays in the current value
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* Plausible state of the ignition switch.
* The history DTC clears after 100 malfunction-free warm-up cycles.

Circuit/System Testing
1. Cycle the ignition switch through the various power modes and verify the DTC does not reset.
• If the DTC resets, replace the steering column module.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
