- System Voltage High Voltage

Diagnostic Fault Information

Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Description

The power steering control module (PSCM) monitors the system voltage to ensure that the voltage stays within proper range. Damage to components and incorrect data may occur when the voltage is out of range.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* Engine Running
* Power steering system voltage is 9-16 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC
DTC C1523 03

The input voltage at the power steering control unit Connector X1, terminal 1 is less than 9 volts for at least 0.3 seconds.
DTC C1523 07

The input voltage at the power steering control unit Connector X1, terminal 1 is greater than 16 volts for at least 0.1 second.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

Steering boost is decreased.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

A history DTC will clear after 60 consecutive malfunction-free ignition cycles.

Diagnostic Aids

* Overheating of the system caused by overload.
* After many steering movements the steering is overheated (for example, parking several times at high outside temperature).

Circuit/System Verification

1. Engine running, accessories OFF, measure and record the battery voltage. The voltage should be between 9.0 and 16.0 volts.

If not within the specified range, refer to Charging System Test (Charging System Test) .

2. Observe the scan tool Electro-hydraulic power steering ECU Battery Voltage. The reading should be between 9.0 and 16.0 volts.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the B+ harness connector at the power steering module.
2. Test for less than 5.0 Ohm between the ground circuit terminal listed below and ground.

Connector X2, terminal 2

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

3. Verify that the test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminals listed below and ground.

* Terminal Connector X2, terminal 40
* Terminal Connector X3, terminal 1

If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.

4. If all circuits test normal, replace the power steering module.

Repair Instructions

Important: For any module replacement a set procedure needs to be followed. A "Reset" may need to be performed from the PROGRAMMING menu of the current system with the scan tool BEFORE replacing the module.
