Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Release the handbrake.

* Detach the boot of handbrake lever (2).
* Slacken the handbrake cable by turning back the adjusting nut (3).

2. Remove the rear wheel.




3. In the vehicles with disc brakes, detach the handbrake cable from the brake caliper.

* Push down the operating lever at the brake caliper using a screwdriver.
* Remove the handbrake cable.
* Detach the retaining clip.
* Pull the handbrake cable out of the bracket.


Important: If it is not possible to pull the brake caliper with brake carrier and installed brake pads from brake disc because of brake disc wear, for example: remove the brake pads from rear wheel brake, refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement (Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement) .


4. Detach the brake caliper with brake carrier from the brake backing plate.

* Remove the 2 brake carrier bolts from the brake carrier plate.
* Pull the brake caliper with brake carrier from the brake disc.
* Suspend the brake caliper and brake carrier from the rear spring using suitable wire.

5. Remove the brake disc from rear wheel brake. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (Service and Repair) .
6. Attach the brake carrier plate (3) to the rear spring using cable straps.
7. Disconnect the wiring harness plug (1) from the wheel sensor.
8. Remove the wheel bearing unit from the rear axle.

* Remove the 4 nuts (arrows) from the wheel bearing unit.
* Remove the wheel bearing unit with cover plate (2).




Installation Procedure






Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

1. Install the wheel bearing unit, cover plate (3) and brake carrier plate (2) to the rear axle.

Tighten the 4 new brake carrier plate nuts (arrows) to 50 N.m (37 lb ft) plus 30 degrees plus 15 degrees.

2. Connect the wheel sensor wiring harness (1).
3. Install brake disc of rear wheel brake. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (Service and Repair) .

Important: Clean the thread and insert bolt with locking compound.


4. Attach the brake caliper with brake carrier to the brake anchor plate.

Tighten to 100 N.m (74 lb ft).


* Slide the brake caliper onto the brake disc.
* Install the 2 bolts.

5. If removed, install brake pads of the rear wheel brake. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement (Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement) .
6. Attach the handbrake cable to the brake caliper.

* Insert the handbrake cable into the bracket on the brake caliper.
* Attach the retaining clip to the handbrake cable.
* Push down the operating lever at the brake caliper using a screwdriver.
* Install the handbrake cable.

7. Install the rear wheel .

Tighten to 110 N.m (81 lb ft).

8. Adjust the handbrake. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment (Adjustments) .
