Tie Rod End: Service and Repair



Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair) .
2. Measure the exposed thread length from the lock nut to thread end of the tie rod.
3. Release the lock nut (1).
Counterhold with open-ended wrench on the tie rod end.
4. Release the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
5. Remove the tie rod end nut.




6. Press the tie rod end out of the steering knuckle using SA9211T-2 /KM-161-B and KM-161-2 (1).
7. Remove the tie rod end from the tie rod.



Installation Procedure


Important: First inspect exposed thread length.



Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

1. Install the tie rod end to the tie rod.

Tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).

2. Lock the tie rod end with the lock nut.
Counterhold with an open-ended wrench on the tie rod end.
3. Install the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.

Tighten the nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft) plus 90 degrees, plus 15 degrees.

4. Install the front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair) .
5. Inspect the toe-in, adjust if necessary. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment (Service and Repair) .
